Why Blues Truth Was Founded

Blues Truth Inc. was founded in 2023 by Executive Director Tiakeysha Ellison with a vision to help individuals and families discover that there is another way forward, regardless of their past circumstances.

The name "Blues Truth" was inspired by those who have experienced incarceration and wore what many refer to as "the blues." For many, those blue uniforms represent mistakes, setbacks, and lost opportunities. At Blues Truth, we believe they can also represent growth, redemption, and a new beginning.

Blues Truth is a second-chance and prevention organization dedicated to helping youth stay out of the justice system while supporting individuals who are working to rebuild their lives after involvement with the system. Our goal is to break cycles of incarceration, provide positive alternatives, and create pathways to success through education, life skills training, mentorship, and community support.

Our slogan, "I Am Not Who I Used to Be!", serves as a daily reminder that a person's past does not define their future. We encourage every participant to speak life into themselves and embrace the possibility of change.
